As Calgary blooms in early summer, our thoughts turn to romance. Prepare to be delighted with madrigals by Carlo Gesualdo and Claudio Monteverdi, Britten’s "Gloriana Dances", and Malcolm Forsyth’s "Hesperides", for choir with two harps. Our guest artists are harpists Gianetta Baril and Keri Lynn Zwicker. Tickets will be available at the door.
Luminous Voices Youth Spotlight provides an opportunity for youth choirs in Calgary to perform prior to Luminous Voices' concerts and then attend as guests. This program has been generously sponsored by the RBC Foundation for the 2016-17 season. On June 4 listen to Mount Royal's own Arioso, directed by Elizabeth Paynter. Their performance will begin at 2:15pm in the lobby of the Bella.
When did love awaken in your life? Some of our singers answered this question in short videos. Some talk about spouses and family, others about music, and one singer talks about how her love of gardening was awakened. Be sure to check them out here.

Circle of 100
A successful performing arts organization requires year-round dedication and work from its leaders and performers in order to present high quality music like you hear in our concerts. Luminous Voices is excited to continue its successful Circle of 100 campaign, which launched last fall. We extend our sincere thanks to the many people who have supported this initiative to date and we hope you’ll consider becoming a member this season, whether you’re returning or joining us for the first time.
We are looking for 100 of our supporters to join this group, each of who pledge to give $1 a day for the year. You can pay all at once or in monthly installments. You will receive a tax receipt for the full amount ($365) at the time of final payment in a calendar year. Any combination of donations totaling $365 or more over the course of a single concert season permit the donor membership to the Circle for that year. The Luminous Voices Circle of 100 will enjoy recognition in concert programs and have the opportunity to attend a rehearsal for each of our last two concerts this season.

The second recording by Luminous Voices is available. The Far West, features Zachary Wadsworth's major work of the same name as well as two additional compositions of his (Come to the Road and Up-Hill).
Zachary Wadsworth's The Far West is a powerful cantata which addresses the AIDS crisis through music and poetry of Tim Dlugos, who died of the disease in 1990 at the age of 40 while studying to become a priest. Through this work, Luminous Voices honours those affected by HIV/AIDS, past, present and future.
Mendelssohn's Te Deum - Announcing the Debut Luminous Voices CD!

Luminous Voices is excited to announce the release of our first CD! We took the opportunity to record our rehearsals and performance of Mendelssohn's Te Deum in June 2014 featuring Neil Cockburn on organ. Written when Mendelssohn was 17 years old, the piece is less known than many of his works but deserves performing, with its elaborate counterpoint (up to 16 parts at times) and grand character.
The CD also includes Mendelssohn's famous unaccompanied motet, "Denn er hat seinen Engel befohlen über dir," and two Schubert part songs for both women's voices and men's voices with mezzo-soprano soloist Patricia Thompson and pianist Cheryl Emery. Despite being close peers, Schubert's music was an influence on Mendelssohn.
