Dr. Timothy Shantz
Founder + Artistic Director
Timothy Shantz is active as conductor, collaborator, tenor soloist and teacher. He is Director of Choral Activities at the University of Alberta’s Department of Music and founded Luminous Voices in 2012 after toying with the idea for years. His other choral activities in Calgary included Chorus Master for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Artistic Director of Spiritus Chamber Choir. As a conductor, Tim is recognized for the breadth of his work, from early music to contemporary, virtuoso unaccompanied pieces to large-scale choral-orchestral works. He has been honoured to grow as a musician through his ensembles and commissioning projects and continues to learn from them in every rehearsal and performance experience. He has enjoyed sharing accolades with the ensembles he directs and continues to strive for beauty and expression through performances, workshops and recordings.
Timothy holds a Doctor of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with a dissertation analyzing the unaccompanied choral work Sun-Dogs by composer James MacMillan. He has studied with John Poole, Jan Harrington, Carmen Tellez, Frieder Bernius, Jon Washburn, Leonard Ratzlaff, Debra Cairns and Noel Edison.
Christina Jahn
Executive Director
Christina Jahn, MA, BA, BEd, CLC, IBC, has been involved with Luminous Voices since just before its creation, helping to found the society, serving on the board of directors for two terms spanning 13 years, and also as a founding member of the ensemble.
She comes to the Executive Director role with a diversity of experience: non-profit arts management, board work, human resources, leadership development, coaching, and project management. Christina's passion and gift is helping individuals and organizations find clarity and connection.
Jackie Trowbridge
General Manager
Jackie Trowbridge has worked in administrative roles with Calgary-based music organizations since 2001. Jackie began her musical journey at 32, when she learned to play the trombone as a member of a beginner adult band. Her positive experience in the band inspired her to join a beginner adult vocal choir in 2009.
During her 16 years with Westwinds Music Society and six years with the William Aberhart Music Parents Association, Jackie was responsible for a wide range of administrative duties, including planning and managing music tours. She organized seven adult and five student international tours to Germany, Scotland, Spain, Cuba, and China, as well as tours to Eastern Europe and Canada’s East Coast.
Jackie currently serves as General Manager of Luminous Voices Music Society, Business Manager with the Calgary Children’s Choir, and Administrative Assistant with the Sir Winston Churchill Band Parents’ Association. Her extensive experience in arts administration, event coordination, tour planning, and supporting music organizations has allowed her to work with a diverse range of musicians, educators, students, and community partners.
Outside of her professional work, Jackie sings in a community choir, plays in a dart league, and enjoys playing pickleball whenever the opportunity arises. During the summer, she also works at a local golf course for fun, combining her love of being outdoors with her enjoyment of the game.
